Planes, Trains, & Automobiles

Greetings from Mwami Zambia!

Well, actually Lilongwe, Malawi

After two days of travel, we finally arrived at the hospital in Mwami.  Yes, that's right, two days.

We took a red-eye from Los Angeles to Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C.  We had a three-hour layover there, and we traveled by train, by this really cool transport that looked like something out of Mad Max, except there were no weapons on the vehicle, just people, and finally onto the plane for the long flight to Ethiopia.  The flight was uneventful.  The food was okay, and I watched about four and a half movies, as I usually don't sleep too well on a plane.

We wearily arrived in Ethiopia, went through security and customs, and then headed to the gate for our last flight to Malawi.  Of course, we waited a bit, then waited some more, wondering if we were at the correct gate.  We were at the right gate, and we boarded a bus for our last flight of the trip.  We arrived at Kamuzu International Airport on February 2, 2024.

After going through security and customs, we headed to pick up our luggage, hoping all seven bags made it.  When we reached the carousel, three gentlemen had collected our bags and loaded them on carts waiting for us (tips requested).  After another security stop and bag inspection, we headed out to meet our ride to the hospital.  They were late but well worth it.  A three-plus hour drive on pretty nice roads and we made it to our home for the next year, Mwami Hospital.
