I don’t think I’ve mentioned that our model, Sara, was a true professional. She posed in all types of weather, regardless of how hot or cold it was or how many lizards ran across her feet. Sara would always arrive on time and pose for us.
One Saturday, Sara arrived, and you could tell by her pale face that she wasn’t feeling well. She asked the group if it would be alright for her to just rest. Enough of us agreed, and she set a timer for 30 minutes. First, she lay on one side, then switched to the other. While there were complaints from some of the artists, I saw it as truly drawing from life. Honestly, I’ve never seen people stand around like models do in real life.
When I completed this drawing, I looked at it and appreciated its honesty. This is truly a life drawing. Nothing about it is staged; it’s just a window into a moment.
