Five More Minutes

Five More Minutes

Our figure drawing group had progressively longer poses during our drawing sessions. The initial poses were for warming up your hand and eye, lasting from 30 seconds to one minute. It is incredible how much you can capture on a piece of paper in that short time. We gradually increased to five minutes, then ten, and eventually thirty-minute poses.

The title of this piece, “Five More Minutes”, is not referring to me wanting more time, but the name I chose to give this piece.  Doesn’t it look like she wants to nap for another five?

This piece was created entirely with ink. I didn’t create a pencil sketch and then ink over it. I enjoy drawing this way because every line you make is permanent. Any mistake you make remains on the page, and you, as the artist, must find a way to incorporate it. If you primarily draw on a tablet, attempt drawing without using the undo function.

Drawing without a safety net is exhilarating.
