I do not consider myself a watercolor artist. I am an artist who occasionally works with watercolor. Most of the watercolor pieces I have created have been done while traveling. It is a very convenient way to add color without dragging my entire studio with me. I’ll sketch on a quality mixed-media art pad, then let the color fly!
This piece was drawn on a family trip to Yellowstone National Park. This trip was cold and rainy, so we had some extra time in the hotel to warm up and plan for the next day. Ah, perfect drawing time. So, on this trip, I broke out the Port-O-Studio, which included my watercolors and got to work.
The drawing was very loose, and I wanted to keep the coloring the same way. The result is this somewhat impressionistic view of El Capitan.
