Who’s There?

Who’s There?

I’ll be the first to admit that watercolor painting does not come naturally to me.  That said, it doesn’t stop me from trying.

I had this lovely creature's photo for quite some time, and I decided to draw it while we were living in Africa. After all, how many exotic animals can one artist draw?

My wife and I took our camp chairs over to a friend’s house to view their wonderful gardens in the afternoon sun. I pulled out my drawing pad and started this piece. The piece came naturally, starting with a pencil sketch that turned into an ink drawing. I then added washes of ink. Once it dried a bit, I added some paint, and before I knew it, I had a finished piece.

Honestly, I had overthought this piece for over a year. How would I do this? What should I do for that? In truth, I had thought about it so much that this piece became a mountain to climb instead of a drawing on a piece of paper.

The moral of the story is to open your book and make a mark.
